The Role of Storytelling in Children’s Emotional Development
Summer 2017 - 6 min read
Stories are not only entertaining for children; they play a significant role in psychological, cognitive, and emotional development.
Based on a descriptive-analytical method and psychological literature, this study reviews how storytelling contributes to emotional, social, and mental growth.
Findings indicate that children use stories to identify their own emotions, understand others’ feelings, and develop empathy.
Storytelling also creates a psychologically safe environment in which children can indirectly process fears, anxiety, and internal experiences.
Continuous storytelling was associated with stronger moral values, improved language skills, expanded imagination, and better social relationships.
The study emphasizes that families and educational institutions should use storytelling regularly as an effective developmental and educational tool.
